Regenerate a single layer with AI

Don't like one body part? Open the regenerate popover, type a prompt, pick from variants — only that layer swaps.

Sometimes a full variant gets four parts right and one wrong. Or you just want to try a different sword without touching the character's body. The single-layer regenerate flow lets you target one layer with an AI prompt, see five candidates, pick the one you want.

Opening the regenerate popover

Select a single layer on the canvas. Click the sparkle / wand icon on the floating toolbar (between Edit and More). The Regenerate popover slides out, anchored to the layer.

Writing the prompt

Describe what you want this layer to look like. "Glowing blue sword with energy blade". "Steampunk goggles with brass rims". "Long ponytail in red". The popover sends the prompt + the layer's current PNG to Imagen, which generates five candidates.

Hover-preview

Each of the five candidate cards shows a thumbnail. Hover any card and Charios temporarily swaps the candidate into the editor canvas so you can see it in context with the rest of the character. Move your cursor away and the original snaps back.

Applying

Click a card to apply it permanently. The previous version of the layer goes into the History panel — undo with + Z or revert later from History.

Prompt tips

  • Be specific about colour and material. "Black leather glove with silver studs" beats "glove" by a mile.
  • Match the existing silhouette. Imagen does its best to preserve the layer's shape; describe the silhouette to help it ("oversized shoulder pad", "thin dagger").
  • Iterate. If none of five candidates is right, hit Regenerate again. The model is non-deterministic — the same prompt produces different candidates each time.
